Everything I have ever seen
2022
16 x 14 x 7 cm
A sculpture made out of clay and all the glasses I have ever worn.
Sight is one of the primary senses we use every day. It forms the basis of our perception of the world and allows us to feel safe. With healthy eyesight, we can judge distance and space, experience colours. But what if your eyesight is not healthy? What if its condition allows someone to see like no one else can? When I close my eyes my image glows and shines. However, when I open them, nothing is as it should be. That's why I've always worn glasses. My first frames were not what I wanted, they were chosen by my parents. They imposed on me how I should look, and over time I had more and more control over that. They began to be more and more like me, like the kind of person I wanted to be. My sculpture made from all my glasses I have ever worn speaks of the journey I have been on, how much I have seen and how I have been seen. Because, after all, they were the first thing you could see on my face.
